Jessie team rocket funny face1/16/2024 ![]() Meowth tells Pikachu he meant the Pidgeot. Meowth asks Pikachu if he can do something and Pikachu obliges, electrocuting Meowth out of habit. Meowth bemoans the fact that he finally caught Pikachu and now has been caught himself. Things look bad for the defiant Pikachu but the gathered group are too late to spot an approaching giant Pidgeot which swoops down, grabbing Meowth and Pikachu in its mighty talons and flying away- as Meowth’s gloves fall to the ground. Landing elsewhere, Jessie, James and Meowth gloat to Pikachu, inviting an electric assault from Pikachu which they deflect once again. Ash scrambles out of the pit just in time to see Team Rocket’s balloon float away. Ash hurls Pikachu out of the pit to fight Team Rocket off but the trio are armed with shock-protecting gloves and absorb Pikachu’s electricity! In a surprisingly co-ordinated attack, Arbok and Weezing blindside Pikachu and allow Meowth to lock a constraint around Pikachu’s waist- before attaching one to himself, with a connective rope keeping the two of them attached! Jessie and James pick Pikachu up and the bad guys leg it. Team Rocket appear and taunt Ash’s group, telling them they should have gone for the basket after all because the tree was the trap and they conned them with reverse psychology.Īs Ash and Misty squabble, Team Rocket launch an attack, sending out Arbok and Weezing. To make matters worse, one of the apples from the tree falls into the pit and hits Ash on the head- it’s a painted rock. The group approach the tree… and immediately fall into a pitfall. Misty points out a nearby fruit tree and suggests they eat from that instead. Misty, with an air of irritation, points out how obviously this looks like a trap- exactly the kind of trap, in fact, that Team Rocket would plant. Ash is about to grab the basket until Misty tells him to stop and get back (with a very funny rewind sound effect playing over Ash’s reversing motions). The group wander down a dirt road until Ash spots a fruit basket in the middle of the road. Tracey, illustrating his point with a map, tells everyone the island is home to giant Pokémon, specifically Pidgeot and Rhydon. The episode begins with Ash’s travelling party on an unnamed island in the Orange Archipelago. Yukiyoshi Ōhashi was the writer behind this classic episode. As an extra bonus, it’s very funny and is a star turn not just for Maddie Blaustein as Meowth but also for Ikue Ōtani (and stands as one of her favourite episodes, being selected by her as part of a Japanese event re-airing older episodes to mark the franchise’s 20th anniversary). This episode marks the first time the viewers are shown with almost explicit clarity just how much better things could be for one of the trio, in this case Meowth. ![]() If things had gone differently in their lives, they could be very different people, as many episodes throughout the course of the series will display. The trio are victims of circumstance and a world that let them down, leading to them eventually making the poor decision to join Team Rocket. Team Rocket are, as has been previously discussed in this blog, not simply one-dimensional villains. ![]()
